Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement program is responsible for protecting the health and safety of county residents, visitors, and communities by ensuring compliance with county code. Code Enforcement specialists investigate code violation complaints associated with building, land use, onsite wastewater disposal and solid waste.

Voluntary compliance is the Code Enforcement program’s core objective.  Staff continues to refine best practices to achieve voluntary compliance. When voluntary compliance is not achieved, staff will coordinate with the Sheriff’s Office in the issuance of a warning, a citation, or Notice of Civil Penalty.  Additional compliance efforts could include an injunction, contempt of court, daily fines for non-compliance, property lien and foreclosure.

With the legalization of marijuana, Code Enforcement is the primary entity responsible for receipt and investigation of initial complaints. Code Enforcement staff closely coordinate with CDD divisions, the Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office and state agencies to achieve code and legal compliance of marijuana operations.  Marijuana-related complaints can be submitted online.
