Election returns steady heading into Tuesday's primary election
Less than one week away from the deadline for Oregonians to submit ballots for the upcoming Primary Election, the Deschutes County Elections Office is reporting that consistent turnout compared to the last presidential primary election held in 2016.
As of yesterday (Thursday, May 14), Deschutes County has received 22.6% of its ballots. In the 2016 primary election, the total percentage of ballots received on the same day was also at 22.6%.
Election results schedule:
For the upcoming May 19 election, the county Elections Office will release results on the following schedule:
- Initial results will be released shortly after 8 p.m. at www.deschutes.org/results
- A second set of results will be released later in the evening on May 19. Two subsequent updates to the results will be posted, one either later election night or the next day and the last when the election is certified.
In years prior, Deschutes County would provide several updates through the night of the election, once ballot drop boxes closed at 8 p.m. That will not happen this year, in part because elections personnel will be practicing safe social distancing while processing ballots, and physical space limitations limit the number of workers.
Drop boxes, as in years past, will be closed and locked at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19.
Remember, it’s too late to mail your ballot. Instead, use any official ballot drop site to return your ballot by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19. For more information or to find your nearest official ballot drop site location visit: https://sos.oregon.gov/voting/pages/drop-box-locator.aspx
Deschutes County will certify results no later than 5 p.m. on June 8.
Elections officials are happy to help any and all voters with questions/requests. Please see www.deschutes.org/elections or call (541) 388-6547.
