Final Recount Results for 53rd House District Republican primary

The Deschutes County Clerk’s Office has completed a hand recount of the 53rd House District Republican primary and determined that Jack Zika has 3,771 votes and Ben Schimmoller has 3,769 votes.

Coming into the recount, just two votes separated Zika (3,771) and Schimmoller (3,769).

State law requires automatic recounts when the number of votes between candidates is less than one half of the one percent of the total votes cast for both candidates. During today’s recount, election workers physically recounted all of the ballots cast in this race to determine the final outcome.

The Deschutes County Clerk’s Office will submit the recount results to Oregon State Elections. As the filing officer, State Elections will certify the results of the election by June 14.
