News Release - Community Development Dept. Annual Report and Draft Work Plan

The Deschutes County Community Development Department (CDD) has drafted its Annual Report and Work Plan for fiscal year 2016-17.  The document summarizes achievements over the past year and outlines anticipated projects and goals in each of CDD’s four divisions for the next fiscal year. It is available for public review on CDD’s website at www.deschutes.org/cdd.

CDD’s mission is to facilitate orderly growth and development in the Deschutes County community through coordinated programs of Land Use Planning, Environmental Soils, Building Safety, Code Enforcement, education, and service to the public.

The draft Annual Report and Work Plan has been presented for preliminary review and comment to various stakeholder and customer groups including the Deschutes County Planning Commission and Historic Landmarks Commission.

CDD Director Nick Lelack highlighted some of the major projects on tap for the year ahead.  “Our top priorities will be to improve turnaround times for processing permit applications, and to create one-stop development permitting shops with the Cities of Sisters and Redmond in their respective city halls similar to our successful model with the City of La Pine,” he said. “The work plan focuses on implementing the Board of County Commissioners 2016-17 annual goals and objectives, which include projects such as coordinating with Bend and Redmond on successful UGB amendments, to protect groundwater in Southern Deschutes County, and to implement amendments to County Code to regulate medical and recreational marijuana.”

A Public Hearing and Board consideration of approval will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Barnes/Sawyer Rooms at the Deschutes Services Center, which is located at 1300 NW Wall Street in Bend.

The public is encouraged to attend the hearing and provide input. Feedback about the proposed plan may also be submitted by sending comments to CDD Director Nick Lelack at Nick.Lelack@deschutes.org.
