General Information

Is SkidCar Training available year-round?

Yes, SkidCar Training is available year-round. Classes are offered seven days a week starting at 8:00 am or 1:00 pm.


How much does the program cost?

Skidcar Training is available to members of the general public for a $100.00 fee.

This program is free for current Deschutes County employees, volunteers and interns. Agency temps and independent contractors are not eligible for this offer. This offer is non-transferable to family members or other members of the general public.


Are private classes available?

No, private classes are not available for any individual or group. Appointments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.


Can you take SkidCar Training with a learner’s permit?

Yes, anyone who is 15 years or older and has a learner's permit or driver's license is eligible to register. Before taking the course, we recommend that participants have enough driving experience to feel comfortable behind the wheel.


Are there any discounts or scholarships available?

No, there are no discounts or scholarships available for SkidCar Training.


How do I purchase a gift certificate?

Gift certificates are available for purchase through Deschutes County Risk Management. If you would like to purchase a gift certificate, please contact Deschutes County Risk Management at skidcar@deschutes.org.

Payment must be made in-person at our office (cash or check only) or by mailing a check made payable to Deschutes County to:

Scheduling & Payment

How do I register for SkidCar Training?

Online registration is available through our website. Deschutes County Risk Management is unable to process registrations over the phone or by email. If you are experiencing any issues with the online scheduler, please contact Deschutes County Risk Management for assistance at skidcar@deschutes.org.


There are no appointments on the schedule. What does that mean?

If the front page of the scheduler indicates that "There are no appointments available between...", it means that all appointments have been filled for the current registration period. Please continue to monitor the schedule for cancellations and updated availability.


When will new appointments be added to the schedule?

Appointments for the upcoming month will be added to the schedule 2-3 weeks before the month begins. Instructor availability determines the monthly schedule.


Is there a waitlist available?

No, Deschutes County Risk Management does not maintain a waitlist for cancellations or future appointments.


If I didn't receive a confirmation email. What should I do?

This email contains important information you will need to prepare for the course, including directions to the classroom and a link to download the Waiver of Liability form. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please check your spam folder or contact Deschutes County Risk Management at skidcar@deschutes.org.


Are online payments available?

No, online payments are not available for SkidCar Training. You will remit payment to the instructor on the day of the training with a check or money order made payable to Deschutes County.

Cancellations

How do I cancel or reschedule for another training session?

You are permitted to cancel or reschedule up to seven (7) days before the training using the link provided in your confirmation email. If you are unable to locate your confirmation email, or need to reschedule within seven (7) days of the training, please contact Deschutes County Risk Management for assistance at skidcar@deschutes.org.


Is it possible that my training will be canceled?

While we make every effort to ensure that classes proceed as scheduled, there are certain circumstances that may force the cancellation of a class. These circumstances include, but are not limited to:

  • Inclement weather
  • Instructor availability
  • Mechanical difficulties
  • Insufficient number of participants (minimum of two participants must be present)

How do I sponsor training for my agency/organization?

Please complete this form. Deschutes County Risk Management will review all inquiries within two (2) business days.


Are private classes available for members of my agency/organization?

No, private classes are not available for any individual or group. Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Members of your group are not required to take the course together and may register for any available time on the schedule.


Are there any group discounts available?

No, there are no discounts available for any individual or group.
