Court Approved Diversions
Traffic Safety Diversion & Seat Belt Diversion Information:
Deschutes County Justice Court offers various diversions. Supporting Documents (see below) has the court approved Traffic Diversion course information and the Seat Belt Diversion class information. The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office is very specific about requirements for the Seat Belt class so please read ahead of class time. The information for any diversion is only applicable after you have contacted the Justice Court and signed a contract of eligibility and paid the assigned fees.
Traffic Diversion in Spanish is offered in-person through Court Services. Please contact Court Services for the current Spanish speaking class schedule as it is only offered every other month. Traffic Diversion is also available in Spanish on-line with the National Traffic Safety Institute (NTSI) and U-Turn180.
If you are attending an in-person Traffic Diversion course, the Court asks that you call NTSI or Court Services prior to appearing for school. NTSI's online course is labeled as "Traffic Level I" and UTurn180's online course is labeled as "Traffic Safety Course (Level 1)".
Distracted Driving Avoidance Course Information:
Our court now offers a Distracted Driving Avoidance Course to drivers who have received a citation for distracted driving under ORS 811.507. Distracted driving includes Driving a Motor Vehicle while Using a Mobile Electronic Device as implemented by Oregon Legislature on October 1, 2017. This court ordered course is much different from other programs. Please ensure that you are signed up for the correct class as fees, deadlines, tuition and driving record outcomes will vary.
