Proposal Summary

The applicant is proposing to amend Deschutes County Code (DCC), Title 18, County Zoning to allow for self storage in the Multiple Use Agricultural - 10 Acre Minimum (MUA-10) zone along State Highway 20 as a conditional use in the zone. A brief summary of the amendments is as follows: 

Mini-storage facilities, including watercraft, and RV storage, allowed with a conditional use permit on parcels that are:
1. Within 2,500 feet of an urban growth boundary;
2. Adjacent to State Highway 20; and
3. A minimum of 10 acres in size and not to exceed 35 acres in size. Multiple contiguous parcels may be considered in the aggregate to meet the requirements of this section.

Proposal Status

A public hearing was held before the Planning Commission on June 13, 2024 and written comments were accepted until June 20. The Planning Commission voted 3-2 to recommend the Board deny the application.

A second hearing before the Board of County Commissioners will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. The hearing is anticipated to begin at 9:20 am.
