Modernization: Outreach and Prevention
Oregon and Deschutes County strive to modernize the way public health interacts with the community. As a result, Deschutes County has hired new positions with an aim to bridge the gaps between communities and the resources they need. Through outreach and education, we hope to improve access to safe food, water, clean air, and resources to support disease prevention among vulnerable communities in our county.
Purpose:
Deschutes County Environmental Health is spearheading a new project to improve health outcomes among vulnerable populations. For organizations and businesses that care for, provide services to, and house such groups, we are offering several opportunities for education and outreach on environmental hazards. Our aim is to help those who are serving our community by providing support, education, and resources when needed.
Vulnerable Groups:
- Houseless individuals
- Children
- Adults with disabilities
- Older adults
Target Organizations:
- Child Cares, Charter Schools
- Shelters, Soup Kitchens
- Adult Foster Homes
- Transitional Housing
What we are offering:
- Education on foodborne illness prevention (e.g., norovirus, salmonella)
- Education about maintaining safe indoor air quality
- Environmental assessments & support during outbreaks
- Helping provide resources such as personal protective equipment, box fan filters, air quality monitors
- Providing on-site training
