WELCOME to the Staying Healthy and Prevention Area
Healthy Schools is a 50/50 partnership between Deschutes County and Bend-La Pine Schools – each paying 50% of the costs to place Public Health Specialists in our high schools as part of school staff.
The Adolescent Health and Development team works in the community offering support and resources on a variety of important topics. Content covered includes peer pressure, finding reliable health information, accessing community resources, sexual health, and maintaining healthy relationships. Our health educators coordinate multiple programs and work closely with schools and youth serving organizations.
The Deschutes County School Based Health Centers (SBHCs) provide affordable, convenient health care and health education to young people who live in the Bend / La Pine, Redmond, or Sisters school districts.

The Substance Misuse Prevention Program is designed to prevent and reduce substance misuse, as well as related behaviors such as bullying, suicide, and problem gambling. Focused primarily on young people ages 10 through 25, the program addresses the environments in which this population lives, works, studies, and plays. Community Health Strategists on the Substance Misuse Prevention team apply the Strategic Prevention Framework to ensure that programs and strategies produce results.
The Tobacco Prevention and Education Program (TPEP) is a comprehensive program, utilizing evidence based interventions to address tobacco and nicotine use.
Gambling is the act of risking money, or something else of value, on an activity with an uncertain outcome. Gambling is considered to be an addictive behavior, similar to substance use disorders.
